I build up thick, dried layers of acrylic paint and recycled textiles (I search for used clothes with stripes, patterns, and bright colors). Once I have a desired depth, pattern, color, and opacity in the layers of cloth and paint, I cut them into squares and rectangles. I then create compositions with these pieces by collaging them onto wooden substrates.

These works could be seen as two-dimensional readings of three-dimensional, abstract, landscapes that are rendered with a handmade aesthetic. My interest is in the variances between neighboring spaces (certain nuanced relations in patterns, space, color, surface, depth, and composition), as well as how these painted/collaged spaces might relate to the differences in the man-made spaces that we, as humans, inhabit and create. I enjoy integrating old clothes/textiles into my abstract paint collages because they had so much history and meaning as clothes (as signifiers of gender, age, class, and ethnicity).
